Marcelle Ayo
Marcelle works for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as Manager in the Strategic Initiatives Unit where she is responsible for the newly launched IFC Global Analyst Program that seeks to support IFC better resource allocation and Analysts’ career development.
She is a Gabonese female executive with two decades of multi-sectoral experience in corporate banking and impact investing on the African continent. She joined IFC in 2012 as a Senior Trade Finance Officer where she actively contributed to the expansion of the IFC Global Trade Finance Program in Sub-Saharan Africa. She subsequently led the IFC’s Trade Finance Advisory program globally, following which she became the Adviser to the IFC Vice President and Treasurer. Prior to joining IFC, Marcelle worked successively at Citi Libreville, Citi London, and BMCE Bank London. She has launched new business lines in corporate banking and microfinance. More recently, she had been the IFC Country Manager covering Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius, and Seychelles. During her tenure as Country Manager, she played a key role in leading business development and implementing an integrated Investment and Advisory strategy for IFC’s activities.
Over the years, Marcelle has developed a particular interest in the theme of financial inclusion in view of providing access to finance to MSMEs or increasing smallholder farmers’ productivity with a holistic approach consisting in market level engagements including through the improvement of the credit infrastructure or the introduction of innovative financial services; and in client level engagements in the form of financing and advisory services to financial institutions or mobile network operators to allow increased on-lending to MSMEs, together with a digital lens.
Marcelle holds a master’s in computer science applied to management from University Paris Dauphine, a master’s in business administration from ESSEC (Paris), and a master’s in finance from London Business School.
She is currently based in Washington, DC.
